What’s the best way to keep a 14,000 pound elephant in its room?
Give DRYCO a call and have us install a 4,000 pound Elephant door, of course!

This past year the Oakland Zoo challenged DRYCO’s new fencing and iron division, and asked us to build them a one-of-a-kind door. The specs were simple it had to withstand the pounding of the world largest land mammal weighing between 12,000-14,000 pounds and accommodate its 11”foot stature. Needless to say they not only conquered the challenge but “stampeded” it. Steve Figures and his crew constructed a massive door weighing in at over 4,000 pounds. The door stands at over 12 feet high by 8 feet wide. To accommodate for the Zoo keeper we installed hydraulics so the door could be opened with ease and also created a man door for the zoo keeper to use as well.

This has been one of DRYCO’s most exciting and interesting jobs yet. We are very excited with the end product and can only imagine what our fencing and iron division will be up to next… I hear the lion house a few exhibits down might need some iron work done.

The only thing better than a little asphalt is some football

Here at DRYCO we love our sports almost as much as we love our asphalt. There is nothing better than waking up to the smell of hot mixed asphalt in the morning, except for a cup of coffee and some football. This past season was a great year for the Niners and Raiders. They gave us something to cheer for and believe in. The Niners shot out of the gate and never looked back while the Raiders were rolling but unfortunately with injures to Mcfadden, and Campbell they could not keep the magic alive.

Its been awhile since the Niners have made the playoffs and this year we were so close to the super bowl we could almost smell it, but unfortunately it just wasn’t our time. However with the Niners squad mostly still intact and the Raiders starting off fresh once again we are very excited to see what this next season has in store for us.

This weekend we are looking forward to watching our bay area all-stars down in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, and in the bottom of our hearts hoping for the super bowl next year.

Thanks again for giving us quite a show, can’t wait till next season!

Joe Lacob Basketball Court

On April 27th, 2011 the Joe Lacob basketball court’ was unveiled at Haight Elementary in Alameda. The Good Tidings foundation and the Golden State Warriors teamed up with DRYCO to rebuild the basketball court at the school. Click Here to watch the dedication ceremony.

Oakland Schools Police after school program Basketball Court, Wiffle and Kickball Field

On July 13, the Good Tidings Foundation, in partnership with the Golden State Warriors teamed up with DRYCO to build two new basketball courts for the Oakland Schools Police’s Together We Can program, where Oakland Police officers mentor and play sports with Oakland youth.

On July 29th, the Good Tidings Foundation and the Oakland Athletics teamed up with DRYCO to create a new wiffle ball / kickball field to go with the playground at the Oakland Schools Police site. This program allows the officers to get involved in the community in a positive way and help build lasting friendships with the youth.

Mosswood Park Oakland

On, May 25, the Good Tidings Foundation, Golden State Warriors and Kaiser Permanente teamed up with DRYCO to renovate two new basketball courts at Mosswood Park in Oakland. Some of the great legends began their journey to the NBA in the park such as Bill Russell, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton and Dwight Gooden. DRYCO refurbished Mosswood’s tennis courts as well, once the basketball courts were completed

DRYCO PAINTS THE WORLD ONE JOB AT A TIME

One of the hardest things in life is to draw a single straight line, when it comes to striping it’s no different.

After speaking with Rick Flores the Coatings Division Manager at Dryco Construction we found out that there is much more to tennis courts and striping then just painting a straight line. Stripers and tennis court crews are just another name for artists. These types of jobs require craftsmanship, creativity and a lot of patience.

Our striping and tennis court crews have been working an average of 70 hours per week in the summer to do what they do best… provide guidelines for our chaotic world. If it was not for these skillful workers the playgrounds, basketball courts, volleyball courts and indoor arenas that we enjoy would be one big squiggle line mess.

One job we did this past year stood out in particular. It had a finishing touch only an expert could have added. The vibrant colors as shown in the picture above explain it all. This school wanted only a USA map, however after the final product was finished the project manager decided to add the whole world to their playground. This added something more appealing to the eye and brought more imagination for the kids to play on then rather than black asphalt.

Another job that caught our eye was at a Sandbrook Residence in Los Altos. They had a fascination for basketball and wanted something different and unique that you could only find at their house. Our tennis court crew was ready for the challenge. They used a real basketball and matched the colors perfectly to create a life size replica that was hand painted on the key and free throw line of the court. A Dryco employee said “I loved this idea so much that I am getting it painted in my backyard for my daughter, she loves basketball!!”

Although these guys can paint you an everyday white straight line, they aren’t your average stripers. The skills these guys have are amazing! They definitely add a zest to our streets, neighborhoods, shopping centers, and our backyards. One line at a time!!

Not All Bids Are Created Equal!

Going to bid can be a nightmare if you are not properly prepared. One way to minimize frustration and confusion is to make sure your comparing apples to apples. The most important part of the bid process is creating a solid scope of work. It may take a little more time and effort but it will be worth it in the end.

If you have three different estimators bid according to their own scope of work, it will be almost impossible to compare bids. One estimator might think one area needs R and R and another might walk right past it. When looking over the bids remember that sometimes the cheapest bid can also be the most expensive. Poor craftsmanship and maintenance could lead to costly repairs and major headaches in years to come. This is why it is important to work with a company you can trust and who is willing to answer all of your questions.

The “Ideal” Bid Process

In order to be efficient in getting the most value for your money, set up a specific time for all your estimators to meet and walk the property together. This will allow you to come up with a consensus on the scope of work. If the estimators have a hectic schedule and cannot meet, you can walk the property with a single estimator and create a detailed site map with all the areas you would like worked on. After, mail this map to the other estimators and have them come to your property. It is best to make yourself available as they walk the property so you can answer any questions or concerns. In the end, the goal is to have everyone bid on the same work, therefore allowing you to get the most value out of your dollar.
